Artificial Intelligence, or AI is here to stay. Twenty-five percent of C-suites executives already use it. Employees are routinely using it, too, whether we know it or not. To address this reality, communicating a policy on AI is imperative. Issuing a policy is also a Best Practice because it promotes open communications, and will help combat the opposite of Artificial Intelligence – Natural Stupidity.
Some key elements of an AI policy include:
• Recognition that for all the good AI offers, it also presents a number of moral, legal, and potentially financial and reputational risks.
• AI is to be regarded as a tool – not a replacement for sound judgment and experience.
• In using AI, employees must adhere to the Company’s data privacy and security policies.
• Use of AI by employees, contractors, or others on behalf of, or for the Company must align with the Company’s values and legal policies.
• Employees and others must use AI systems ethically and responsibly.
• Studies reveal AI developers, intentionally or otherwise, build their own biases into AI formulas. AI has been known to fabricate sources.
• If AI is used anywhere in the decision-making process it must be cited.
